Supporting small businesses and local artists is a form of organizing and awakening against giant corporations because it helps to improve communities and positively impact the bottom line for companies that support these organizations. Companies today are increasingly rated by their community involvement, ethics and social responsibility. Many corporate visionaries see the value of deeper cultural engagement and being connected to the community. Such engagement opens the opportunities for companies to stand out in the eyes of consumers, employees and investors. It’s also a way to stand out from the competition.
Supporting small businesses is important because it stimulates business and economic growth in a community. The creative industries throughout the United States employ nearly 3 million people and make up around 4 percent of the nation’s businesses 3. Ordering a commission from a local artist (your local gallery can help connect you), attending in-person or online events hosted by local art galleries, artists and organizations, making donations, promoting and platforming local artists, organizations, events and galleries on social media are some ways you can support local artists, people who work with their hand and soul so they can keep up with this inflated economy and actually bring food to their home and communities.
It's heartbreaking to see the local shops and small businesses going out of business. Not too long but 5-6 years ago there used to be mom and pop shops... Now it's noticeable that wherever we go we see chain stores. We can start with small step to change our preferences and actually not be lazy and start walking and finding local artists, small restaurants and coffee shops that express uniqueness and so much love and effort.
